My dad is my hero. Actually, he is a hero to all Americans, one of the millions of veterans in the United States. A decorated former Army Sergeant who valiantly served in the Vietnam War. He was strong in both body and mind. However, as he got older, we noticed his cognitive abilities and mobility started to decline. A few years ago, it led to a severe fall that changed all of our lives.
The injury he sustained launched a revolving door of hospital visits and rehabilitation stays. It was difficult not only for him and our family, but most significantly for my mom. Also in her late 70s and half the size of my father, my mom’s role as the primary caregiver went into overdrive. When he was home, she ensured he took his medicine, got showered and maintained his daily routine. When he was at the hospital or rehab facilities, she spent 8-10 hours by his side ensuring that he continued to take his medicine, got showered and maintained his daily routine. Regardless of location and pleas from her 3 adult children, she barely took a break.
It wasn't long before everything took a toll on her and she herself ended up in the hospital due to dehydration and exhaustion. Our family now faced a harsh reality, we had to find another option. We found an adult day care center and it changed their lives.
The experience led to our decision to start Generations Club.

We want to give other families a bridge option that keeps their loved ones at home longer and gives much needed rest and peace of mind to caregivers. Our goal is simple, we want to help families in our community by providing top-quality, compassionate day care services that are tailored to ensure each senior thrives. With a team of experienced and compassionate staff, we offer a safe and engaging environment alongside specialized programs and activities which benefits seniors and is vital for their overall well-being.

I don't know where to start. Reading the testimonial and the goal of Generations Club made me wish, so much, that it was opened 3 or 4 years earlier. It made me think how much my husband could have benefited from it, especially the Legends Music Hall.
My husband, Air Force SGT E4 Vietnam Veteran, Larry Michael Ludwig, was my best friend, my husband, my partner, my lover, my soulmate and the love of my life! And always will be! We met later in our lives and just "clicked" from the moment we met. We had the most wonderful 34 years together, filled with fun times, laughter and music, always music! Larry was a self-taught pianist, guitarist, bassist, drummer, you name it he could play it. He was an extremely talented musician, either reading sheet music and playing Beethoven or just playing by ear. He could hear a song and jump up and in less than a minute he'd be playing along. It was AWESOME to watch. But Larry played for his love of music and seeing the smiles and happiness it put on other people's faces. Music was not only Larry's passion, but it was also his "happy place", his "Go To" place, to forget bad days or rejoice in happy times. He played music for the sheer excitement and joy of the music itself and also to calm and center himself when needed.
I feel Larry was taken from me way to young, 74 years old, due to exposure of Agent Orange in Thailand during Vietnam. However, we do not get to choose when it is our time. The saddest thing to me is that between arthritis in his fingers, what the cancer was doing to his body and the beginnings of dementia, he was no longer able to play his guitars, and he had 5. And it all took it's toll on me just as it did your mother.
I had a surprise 74th birthday party for him and hired a guitarist to play his favorite music and because Larry could STILL AT 74, play by ear, it was the first time in 2 years that Larry was so excited he actually got up, went to his old keyboard and started playing along with the guitarist. I'LL NEVER FORGET THE SMILE ON HIS FACE OR HIM! LARRY WILL ALWAYS BE THE LOVE OF MY LIFE!
I think it is a wonderful thing you are doing by opening Generations Club, and Larry and I both are more than happy to have his keyboard for other's to enjoy!
Thank You for letting me share!
